This 28 year old fashion designer from Milan, Italy and New York City traveled to Pittsburgh for her cosmetic rhinoplasty (nose job). She was concerned about the “hump” on her nasal dorsum and under-rotation of her nasal tip. The term under-rotation means that the tip of her nose tilted down towards her upper lip. A more subtle concern was that the tip of her nose was “over-projected”. The term over-projected means that the tip of the nose extended too far forward away from her face.

Left Lateral:

The patient felt strongly that the hump on her nose should not be excessively reduced in size. I very much agreed with this way of articulating her goals. This right lateral view in the post-rhinoplasty picture shows how her nose was naturally harmonized and balanced with her overall facial appearance.

Left Oblique:

This view demonstrated the more refined nasal dorsum and nasal tip.

Frontal:

This view demonstrated the more refined nasal dorsum and nasal tip.

Right Oblique:

This view the shows the enhancement of the nasal tip. Also note the better balanced relationship between the patient’s nostrils and the sides of her nose after her rhinoplasty. This was achieved by the subtle upward rotation of the patient’s nasal tip.

Right Lateral:

This view the shows the enhancement of the nasal tip. Also note the more balanced relationship between the patient’s nostrils and the sides of her nose. This was achieved by the subtle upward rotation of the patient’s nasal tip.

Basal View

This view from the bottom nicely demonstrates the improved shape and balance of the nostrils and the appropriately more pyramidal shape of the bottom of the nose. This patient had an external (or “open”) approach for her rhinoplasty. This approach includes a small incision on the skin between her nostrils. As you can see, this incision has healed to be virtually invisible.
