Solutions For Under Eyelid Wrinkles, Loose Skin, and Deep Tear Troughs
Under eye bags are a very common complaint we hear from our patients of various ages. There are a range of treatments that can be entertained to treat the area under the eyes. The degree of aging, wrinkles, puffiness, amount of loose skin, and depth of the tear trough will decide the proper treatment route. One of the more important factors to consider is the patient’s enthusiasm for surgical versus non-surgical treatments. Dr. Leong and our staff will help you work through these decisions during your consultation.
For some of our patients in Pittsburgh, Botox® Cosmetic or Dysport injections to the lower eyelid can be an appropriate solution for fine lines and wrinkles. By relaxing the obicularis oris muscles, Botox® Cosmetic can improve wrinkles and minor creases in this area. If needed, we can also target the crows feet wrinkles which sometimes comes hand in hand with lower lid wrinkles. To achieve the best results, we suggest our patients return every 3-4 months for repeat injections.
For other patients, the depth of their tear trough may be the main problem at hand. Deep tear troughs can create a shadow effect that some people call “racoon eyes”. Tear Trough Correction which is completed with a Restylane dermal filler, can fill in this trough and create a more youthful and rested appearance. Tear Trough correction is performed with microcannulas (never needles!) can last up to 14 months.
In some cases, Lower Blepharoplasty surgery may be the best option for thin and excessive under eyelid skin or puffiness. Lower Eyelid Lift can be performed to remove loose skin and extra fat under the eye. When Dr. Leong performs a lower blepharoplasty, he often moves some of the excess fat in the puffy area under the eye into the tear trough – correcting two problems at one time! This surgery restores the eyes and leaves patients looking more youthful. Results can last 10 years or more.
